Writing Reviews for "Crypto Cartel"
about 4 years ago – Tue, Mar 31, 2020 at 09:31:25 PM

Hey everyone!

I wanted to write a quick note addressing some of the rules pertaining to the giveaways for Saturday's Livestream event -- specifically with regards to the review writing.

While everything is intended to be in good fun, to others that might not be the case.

After having a thoughtful conversation with my wife, my brother, and my sister-in-law; I soon realized why I'm in this situation to begin with. Without getting into specifics, individuals decided to get together and stoke anger over the very existence of "Crypto Cartel" to a point that resulted in disingenuous ratings on my BoardGameGeek game profile -- none of whom had actually played the game.

This was a very dishonest tactic which negatively impacted my brand.

At the end of the day -- while living with a Pandemic that has upended most of our lives -- we should hope for nothing but the best for one another.

Having said that, there is no need to integrate bean puns in your reviews. All I ask for is an honest review - a review that you feel that I have earned; which should reflect your enthusiasm.

To write at an honest review on BoardGameGeek.com, please visit this link right here.

For more information about the Livestream, please visit the Facebook Event Page.

The Livestream will take place at 12PM PST on 04 April 2020.

04 April 2020 @ 12PM PST

Hey everyone!

First of all, I just wanted to start off by saying that if you have any money left over to support any causes right now, please give to organizations like the American Red Cross or please make contributions to your local community in areas of the market where they might be struggling. Our economy is in a tight spot right now, and I know local restaurants could definitely use as much support as can be offered.

Hasn't this pandemic been crazy? While some might say this is an echo of the Spanish Flu over 100 years ago, this is largely unprecedented.

Worst of all this has thwarted a lot of small businesses...

... including mine.

Thanks to COVID-19, I've had to bow out of the Mission Viejo Comic Con (March 2020) as well as WonderCon in Anaheim (April 2020) (-- and others if it keeps going.) These were poised to be very profitable moments for my small business to not only build up brand recognition, but to also help me secure enough capital to get the Crypto Cartel comic series rolling. I have scripts that I have been writing for a while that I have been meaning to get over to Manuel Martinez, but have been unable to do so because of how long it's been taking the business to take off.

And this is on top of the other myriad of issues I had experienced along the way.

But here's the best part: you can help me!

And to show my gratitude, I'm going to help you for helping me!

That's why I am hosting a Livestream this Saturday at 12PM PST where I will be going over instructions on gameplay AND I will be having giveaways at the same time! As a matter of fact -- I will giveaway THREE $50 Amazon Gift Cards during my Livestream!

The Livestream will be on Facebook. For those with Facebook, RSVP here!

Here's how you win:
Step 1: (You can do this right now, BTW). Go to the Crypto Cartel Game page on BoardGameGeek.com and leave an HONEST review USING BEAN PUNS! (Something like, "I've bean waiting a long time for this game!" Also - It doesn't have to be a 10/10. Only give me a ranking that you feel I deserve. If it just so happens to be a 10/10, then so be it.)

(Also - extra bonus points for mentioning COVID-19)

"Why Bean Puns?" Well, you see -- the only reviews I have for Crypto Cartel were made by angry internet trolls because they thought my game was "too similar" to the Classic Game Bohnanza... even more annoying, these individuals have never even played "Crypto Cartel." You'll see the reviews date back to 2018 when the Kickstarter campaign occurred. People never received their official copies until December 2019. Any reviews prior to March 2020 are not based on ANY gameplay -- neither with a prototype nor with a final version.

Step 2: On Saturday, the Amazon listing will be made available! Search for "Crypto Cartel." Once you find the listing, copy and paste the same review you left on BoardGameGeek.com as your official review. Once you have done that, feel free to copy and paste that same review in the chat section of the FB Livestream OR email that to me. (I know some of you don't use FB, but that's OK. I don't want you to think you'll be discounted from the competition.)

I will have Three Giveaways during the Livestream and these are the winners categories:
1) For All Kickstarter Backers who bought 4 Copies or More OR Backed a Supporting Comic Book Character!
2) For ALL Kickstarter Backers!
3) For All Kickstarter Backers and viewers during the Livestream!

So basically, the more you contributed to my campaign, the more likely you are to win a gift card!

And that's it!

(And, again, you're eligible to win so long as you have review on BoardGameGeek.com AND Amazon.com! That is my only requirement.)

By doing this you'll help my brand that's been harmed by internet trolls and COVID-19, and you'll help give me momentum on the first day that I'm trying to sell it on Amazon.

Lastly, share with your friends not only my game, but also my associated social media accounts as well.

Feel free to keep sending in more photos. I really appreciate all of this.

"Crypto Cartel" has successfully traveled across the globe.

Copies of the game went to 16 different countries as well as 33 of the 50 states in America. I am very excited by the fact that my game is spread across the globe, and I love hearing from you all!

Some of you have not only gone out of your way to tell me you received your respective copies of my game, but you even went to the length to share with me the fun experiences you have had thus far...

And -- after experiencing much anxiety over the past year to try to get this game out to all of you in as timely of a fashion as possible -- your positive responses have made it worthwhile.

If you go to the comments section of this campaign, you'll read Lucy's comments; which I personally have found very gratifying for many reasons.

(Lucy is based out of the United Kingdom, by the way.)

To summarize some of her comments:

"Really enjoyed our first game last night. We played 3 players but I definitely feel more players would be better. For that number, we probably should have tried the 30 minute variation. The cards look and feel great. A nice size and weight to play with. I can see why there were issues with similarity to Beans, but the addition of the Silk Road cards make a huge difference and add some fun pvp tactics. All in all, a very enjoyable game and one that will be added to our regular plays, especially when we have more people playing."

Thank you, Lucy, for the kind words and going out of your way to drop in a comment on the comment thread.

In reference to her comment about the "issues with similarity to Beans:" for those of you who either forgot or didn't hear - my game was attacked during the Kickstarter campaign by "Cancel Culture"-types because they assumed it was a direct rip-off from the game "Bohnanza."

"Bohnanza" was very much an inspiration for this game, but as you can tell by Lucy's own admission - while the game itself shares similarities with Bohnanza, the Silk Road deck makes a huge difference during gameplay.

Kevin F. from the United States sent me some updates from over the past couple of days. He played it with his girlfriend earlier this week, but then invited friends over for a four player game and the messages he sent me were quite comical. In summary, there was a lot of back-stabbing/cutthroat type of behavior to a point that was demonstrative of the fact that everyone was getting into the game.

One thing I kept noticing: the RPG card was quite the wild card during gameplay. Glad I added it to your copies.

Also: Checkpoint Alert - KEEP THAT CARD IN A SAFE PLACE. :) DON'T LOSE IT. ;)

Additionally --

Gameplay footage:

This will be added to the website as well in the interim, but here is a link to a gameplay video to show how the game is played. (Please read the rulebook. To confirm similarities. This video is 95% correct. Please review the rulebook as you watch the video.)

Also - feel free to hit me up with gameplay questions: I check my email periodically throughout the day. I look LEGITIMATELY look forward to any questions or feedback you might have.

DELAYS
over 4 years ago – Wed, Nov 27, 2019 at 08:28:44 PM

Hey everyone--

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday, especially as we are almost in the holiday season.

I wanted to send you all a quick update. Unfortunately, we have experienced delays overseas. The plastic we used wasn't quite right: it created some cloudiness within the mold. With that being said, it will take a few more weeks before we can get the game out the door.

I was really hoping to be done by now, but I didn't want you to receive a product that was less than adequate.

I am aware that some of you are moving around/after the Christmas holiday. Please let me know so I can make appropriate accommodations.
